Our October 23rd luncheon was a time to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
Our speaker, Carla M. Bury, Multilateral Affairs Coordinator in the State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (G/TIP). It is estimated that 27 million people throughout the world live in some form of slavery – more than at the height of legal slavery. Carla spoke about new trends and initiatives to understand and combat human slavery.

We also presented Lisa Fernandez, founder of the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Wheelchair Project with the 2011 Global Citizen of the Year award.
