Description
 |
EDGE Project (Empowerment through Development and Gender Equality) is a student-led initiative that provides students at the University of Wisconsin with a platform to engage in issues of sustainable international development by connecting them with the resources necessary to research, create and implement community development projects abroad. EDGE considers the advancement of woman's status in traditionally unequal societies as a path toward development and peace.
EDGE Project was launched by 3 UW undergraduates in January 2009, and now consists of about 50 student researchers who work with faculty and other experts to design and implement community development projects. In the summer of 2009 we launched our first projects - including creating a family planning committee, organizing a farming association, building a grain mill, starting a girls' soccer team, volunteering in the schools, and more - in Lingira, an island community in Lake Victoria. We are also looking into starting a project in Latin America. |
