Description
Get ready to speak out Three public hearings have been set for the state climate bill, where you can raise concerns about the pro-nuclear language in the current draft. That's three chances for you to tell legislators that Wisconsin can and should be both carbon free and nuclear free! The hearings are all in room 412 East of the state Capitol building in Madison, at:
Everyone who registers can speak for a few minutes. (Since we're seeking to remove one bad part of an otherwise good and important bill, you can register as "informational" rather than "opposing" or "supporting.") We'll have Carbon Free, Nuclear Free signs that you can hold, to make our presence known. Please attend a hearing (or two!) and help us send a strong message: Nuclear reactors don't produce "clean energy," they produce high-level radioactive waste. That's why the pro-nuclear measures must be removed from the Clean Energy Jobs Act. For decades, Wisconsin law has placed important safeguards on nuclear reactors. The Clean Energy Jobs Act would weaken these safeguards, completely removing the most important one: that no new reactors can be built in Wisconsin until there is a federal repository for the high-level radioactive waste. Removing that would leave communities across the state vulnerable to radioactive waste stockpiles. For more information, see wnpj.org/cfnf. RSVP for our lobby day After the public hearings on the Clean Energy Jobs Act, deliberations on the bill will begin in earnest. That's when amendments will be proposed and debated. To ensure the bill becomes better and stronger, legislators need to keep on hearing from you! Our Carbon Free, Nuclear Free Wisconsin lobby day, on Tuesday, February 23, comes at the perfect time to impact these deliberations. So please mark your calendars and send your RSVP today!
