The Madison Committee on Foreign Relations is sponsoring a talk by Charlotte Streck, Director of Climate Focus in Washington, D.C. and International Expert of the UN Climate Change Process and Carbon Mitigation Measures. Streck is deeply familiar with the UN Framework Agreement process on climate change and is a consultant to participating governments, she is a legal scholar actively involved in climate change policy and carbon control projects throughout her career.

The approach of the UN Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico during the first two weeks in December to resume work on the successor to the Kyoto Treaty expiring in 2012 gives this subject heightened interest.   Charlotte Streck is an expert on the inside working of this process and has valuable insights on the difficulties encountered at the Copenhagen meetings last year.  Currently, she is advising the Mexican government on the challenging task of host government, which involves shaping the agenda as well as providing the venue.
