Description

Norma Berkowitz, one of the founders of FOCCUS (Friends of Chernobyl Centers, United States) and recipient of our Dane County "Citizen of the Year Award for 2010, will give an update on current political and economic developments in the Ukraine and at the site of the former power plant.

Chernobyl is now an “official” tour site, which has considerable implications for health, transportation and housing near the site. The government is constructing a “shelter” as part of the tour plan.

Norma will also speak about the United Nations Development Program's official "withdrawal" from the Chernobyl Recovery and Support Program and what it means for the people in the area. Lastly, she will review current plans for re-establishing agriculture in the affected areas.
