UNA-USA Dane County EventsEvent
DescriptionNorma Berkowitz, the UNA-USA Dane County Global Citizen of the Year recipient in 2010 and two colleagues from Friends of Chernobyl Centers, U.S. (FOCCUS) will report on their trip to the Ukraine for the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and honor the first responders at the time of the disaster. See below for more details. Greetings from Ukraine: We had the honor and privilege of attending a ceremony in Boyarka Ukraine to honor the firefighters who were the first responders to the Chernobyl Disaster. The sacrifice they made will forever be remembered. FOCCUS will be taking a moment to honor these heroes on the 25th Anniversary of Chernobyl on April 26th. We will be having a reception on the second floor of the Madison Central Library located at 201 W. Mifflin Street from 6pm to 8pm. This is also where Michael Forster Rothbart’s “After Chernobyl” photo exhibit is displayed. At 8pm we will have a memorial ceremony to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster. In honor of the 25th anniversary we will be lighting 25 candles outside the library. Please come and enjoy some refreshments while welcoming home Norma Berkowitz, Marlene Duffield and Rob Schuettpelz from Ukraine and pay tribute to those who have suffered from this tragedy. Also please help us spread the word of this event, as we want as many people as possible to join us on the 25th Anniversary. Best Wishes, Robert Schuettpelz FOCCUS Executive Director www.friendsofchernobylcenters.org -- EventList powered by schlu.net |
